'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith resumes battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the thrilling final moments of Swansea's epic comeback victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game culminated with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear following the post-goal scrum.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith struck the post with a speculative effort from distance, and the defender promptly hammered in the rebound before sprinting toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with supporters mobbing the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory capped an incredible turnaround given the team had been behind 2-0 midway through the latter period. During the celebrations, there was some minor mishaps. Galbraith explained, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're people, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result earned a next round match at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a team Galbraith came close against at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's long-range effort from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've given it to him for having a go from that range," stated Galbraith, who played in the middle before shifting to right flank after they changed formation. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way Orient approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are very good but even the basics and simple things, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they understand how to dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can think you're holding your own and then without warning they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even noticing. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It takes a strong mentality and concentration just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a significant move. He became a favorite as a fans' favourite across a couple of years at Orient and has swiftly replicated that in south Wales. At the London club he linked up again with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a spell at fourth-tier Salford, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a bit naive going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without much intensity. There's not many physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that growth for club and country, shining for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including home and away encounters against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his eye for a decisive through ball.

Early Days

This represents an incredible journey for the kid from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who was raised observing his dad, Stuart, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

His only game for the Red Devils came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they competed on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was sealed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "That proved to be a long trip and it was freezing," he comments, chuckling. "The preceding week, several youth players and I trained together, so that assisted our preparation. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "It was relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I understood I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it became apparent where I felt I required a fresh start, drop down the leagues and play men's football. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed fun bus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, another squad member, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to interact with the guys but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and driving. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would mix with fans on London's Central line after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
