Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
